What To Put On the Bottom of a Lionhead Rabbit Cage

Cages with solid bottoms will use wood shavings, wood chips, straw, etc. as contact bedding to help absorb urine within the enclosure.

The size and type of wood shaving/chip needs to be taken into consideration in order to maintain healthy animals.

After trying a lot for my Lionheads, I will recommend Carefresh as one of the best Lionhead rabbit bedding. It has affordable price, you can check it on Amazon.

Cedar chips should be avoided as it is known to cause upper respiratory issues in Lionheads. They contain dangerous aromatic oils, that’s actually toxic for the bunnies and it can cause liver damage. Pine pellets are safe, though, just not the shavings.

Tip: Always try to keep the living area of your Lionhead bunny clean since it is vital for his good health. A build up of ammonia is not only bad for the pet owners, but hard for the respiratory system of the pet .

The cage need to be kept in a clean and sanitary condition in order to promote a healthy living environment. Bedding needs to be changed as often as necessary to prevent over soiling and wetness. The bedding will typically need to be changed on a weekly basis at minimum.
