Cages with solid bottoms will use wood shavings, wood chips, straw, etc. as contact bedding to help absorb urine within the enclosure.
The size and type of wood shaving/chip needs to be taken into consideration in order to maintain healthy animals.

Cedar chips should be avoided as it is known to cause upper respiratory issues in Lionheads. They contain dangerous aromatic oils, that’s actually toxic for the bunnies and it can cause liver damage. Pine pellets are safe, though, just not the shavings.
Tip: Always try to keep the living area of your Lionhead bunny clean since it is vital for his good health. A build up of ammonia is not only bad for the pet owners, but hard for the respiratory system of the pet .
The cage need to be kept in a clean and sanitary condition in order to promote a healthy living environment. Bedding needs to be changed as often as necessary to prevent over soiling and wetness. The bedding will typically need to be changed on a weekly basis at minimum.
Litter Box For Lionhead Rabbit
A litter box, sometimes called a litter tray or litter pan is an indoor feces and urine collection box for rabbits that instinctively or through training will make use of such a repository.
It is very important to make difference between bedding and litter on the floor of the cage. If you want to litter train you rabbit it can be confusing for them if you are using the same materials. Litter should only be in the litter box.

How To Make a Litter Box For Lionhead Rabbit
You can make your own litter box: in a plastic box (with low entrance) put newspaper on the bottom, a layer of wood pellets, and then Carefresh Natural Pet Bedding on the top.
Tip: How to litter train a rabbit:
Let the bunny be in a controlled space, where you can easily clean up after their accidents.Then you only need to keep on cleaning after them, placing their droppings in the box.
